Alveofact and Survanta are both brand names of Beractant

Alveofact (Bovine Surfactant):

1. Dosage: The typical dose is 100 mg of phospholipids per kg of body weight.

2. Concentration: Alveofact is usually supplied at a concentration of 50 mg/mL.

For a 3 kg infant:

– Dose calculation: 100 mg/kg × 3 kg = 300 mg

– Volume to administer: 300 mg ÷ 50 mg/mL = 6 mL

Survanta (Beractant):

1. Dosage: The initial dose is 100 mg of phospholipids per kg of birth weight, with up to three additional doses of 100 mg/kg at 6-hour intervals if needed.

2. Concentration: Survanta is supplied at a concentration of 25 mg/mL.

Differences Between Alveofact and Survanta:

– Alveofact: Extracted from bovine (cow) lungs.

– Survanta: Derived from minced bovine lung.

2. Concentration:

– Alveofact: 50 mg of phospholipids per mL.
