Must be used with caution in patients with a history of seizure disorder.

However, cefepime has been shown to achieve adequate concentrations in the cerebrospinal fluid and has been evaluated in the treatment of CNS infections (including those caused by H. influenzae type b) (Ellis 2007; Sáez-Llorens 1995; Sáez-Llorens 2001; Sullins 2013).

It is currently recommended for empiric treatment of health care-associated ventriculitis or meningitis, in combination with vancomycin, or for the directed treatment of susceptible bacterial meningitis (including that caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa) (IDSA [Tunkel 2004]; IDSA [Tunkel 2017]).
