Gentamicin IV is usually available in two different forms:

1. Preservative free (20mg/2ml): this is best used in pediatrics

2. Gentamicin with benzoate as preservative (80mg/2ml): this preparation is NOT recommended to be used in pediatrics.

It’s worth mentioning that the preparation contains benzoate is highly NOT recommended in these situations:

1. Infants below two years old.

2. Patients with convulsions or other neurological disorders.

3. Not to be used as inhalation or by the intrathecal route of administration.

The concentration of the pediatric-specific product is 10 mg/mL. Not recommended to give higher concentrations to pediatrics.
