Using 4 ampoules of Pulmicort (budesonide) as a loading dose in a case of congenital stridor is NOT standard practice and NOT generally recommended.

Pulmicort (Budesonide) Dosing:

  • For nebulization in infants and young children, the typical dose is:

    • 0.25 to 0.5 mg twice daily.

    • Maximum usual dose: 1 mg twice daily (i.e., 2 ampoules of 0.5 mg).

  • 4 ampoules = 2 mgNIH Asthma Guidelines (NAEPP 2007): recommends (For children 5-11 years) a high dose of 2mg/day (4 ampoules per day).
