GIR (Glucose infusion rate)

is defined as the amount of milligrams of glucose administered to the patient per kg of his weight per minute (mg/kg/min).

Can be calculated using this formula:

GIR = ( R x C ) / ( 6 x wt )

R: is the rate of the solution administered to the patient (ml/hr).

C: is the concentration of the glucose in the solution (gm%)

wt: is the patient weight (kg).

Also you can use this formula:

V = GIR x wt x 24 x 60 / C

V: is the total volume to be administered in 24 hours (ml)
