First, you should know that lock therapy is not used treat bloodstream infections, for that you need systemic antibiotics administration. And the infected catheter had to be replaced and cultures.

Lock therapy is used as adjunct to prevent the infection or prevent it’s progressing.

One more thing, lock therapy is used in the lines that are not in use or when they are not in use.

The selection of the agent and accurate concentration to be used for lock therapy can be very different from sitting to sitting and from situation to another.

Heparin is usually used in lock therapy in combination with antibiotics, however it’s use in pediatrics, especially infants and neonates, is of great concern due to the risk of bleeding.
